They Made Us Wish For Death

And it came with no mercy

Psalms 119:45 I will live in perfect freedom, because I try to obey Your teachings.

A wise woman once said... “Your life is not more important to you than it is to God” ~ Ebele Light

And the wisest man who ever lived (besides Jesus) said... “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 16:25).

How many times have we shunned the Lord’s instructions because we didn’t see the “sense” in it at that particular moment? We think within our hearts that He doesn’t understand what’s at stake. We think we know what’s best, that He’s not familiar with the times and He’s taking away the fun part of life. He should understand, we say...

But much more than the actual instructions though, I reckon that the reason for our rebellion is our frail understanding of how God sees us.

The psalmist said, “How precious are Your thoughts to me”. Even as Jesus earnestly said, “Look at the birds: they do not sow seeds, gather a harvest and put in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren’t you worth much more than birds?”

How did we get to the point of thinking God has anything less than the best planned out for us? When did we settle in our hearts that the ways of God are against us? We recite Jeremiah 29:11 as we stand in the church pews but once we step out and the Lord says take left, we turn right. Why? Who has lied to us and why have we believed it?

The commandments of God do not limit our freedom but perfect it; in the sense that it keeps us from derailing! Consider the passengers in a train that has gone off track, they do not shout in glee and claim “freedom” from the railway that’s to take them to their destination, instead they shudder in fear! But we do the exact opposite.

I repeat again in frustration, who has taught us to delight in the path that leads to death!? Who??

You’re God’s little guy/baby girl. The heir to His entire Kingdom. You can never care about yourself as much as He does for you. You are the apple of His eyes. He will never lead you to your ruin! Read the Bible, anyone who had a bad ending did exactly what we’re doing in this generation — they turned away from the Truth.

What we need now is sincere repentance and walking genuinely with the Lord. Forget shame! Na pesin wey dey alive get shame (it is he who is alive that is capable of feeling shame). All else outside Christ is fear, bondage and death in every sense. Please choose life!

Referring back now to the words of the psalmist in Psalms 139:17 that says, “How precious are Your thoughts to me”. We must fill ourselves with the thoughts God has of us. Only then will we honour His leadings, have faith in His promises, trust processes, reverence His Word and realize that He breaks only to make us (consider the works of a potter). Only when we see ourselves as He does will we see the depth of His love for us (and respond ever so fervently).
